Coventry, England– Coventry City has completed the signing of Dutch winger Jahnoah Markelo from Swiss Super League club FC Zürich, the English Championship side announced Tuesday. The 23-year-old forward agreed to a four-and-a-half-year contract, joining the Sky Blues as they push for promotion to the Premier League, according to club and league reports.

Markelo, who made 43 appearances and scored six goals for FC Zürich after joining in September 2024, arrives at the CBS Arena with experience in top European leagues. The transfer fee was not disclosed by either club.

The Amsterdam-born attacker, developed in the Ajax and FC Twente youth systems, played in the Dutch Eredivisie with Go Ahead Eagles and had spells in Croatia before moving to Switzerland. At Zürich, he established himself as a regular first-team player and in September 2025 extended his contract with the club until 2030.

Coventry manager Frank Lampard welcomed Markelo to the squad, saying the addition strengthens the club’s attacking options as they target a strong second half of the season. Coventry currently lead the Championship standings and aim to return to England’s top flight after recent campaigns outside the Premier League.

Markelo’s preferred position is on the right wing, though he can operate across the forward line. He arrives amid competition for wide attacking places and is expected to compete for minutes alongside existing forwards as Coventry balance domestic league duties with cup commitments.

Off the field, Markelo was called up to the Suriname national team for 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in late 2025, though he has yet to make his full international debut.
